The Nockberge
the gently rolling, GREEN & CHARMING SIDE OF THE AUSTRIAN ALPS
When you hear the word Alps, it usually calls to mind craggy, soaring peaks, glacier ice and winter sports. You can experience best of all on the Nockalmstrasse scenic road in Carinthia that the Austrian Alps also have quite a different face.
The rounded Nockberge reach something above 2400 metres and evoke Irish mountain landscapes, fantasy film sets or the dream photos that adorn the pages of calendars.
It has taken hundreds of millions of years and countless shifts between land and sea, desert and primeval forest to give rise to this unique region. Colourful flower meadows and green mountain pastures, forests with arolla pine, spruce and larch, as well as countless clear mountain streams, lakes and ponds form a unique and wholesome landscape.
